Memories
I heard your voice today again,
I saw your face in my mind’s eye
As you were yesterday.
The warm wind blew through my graying hair
As I stood in silent prayer.
The early morning sun touched the Earth
As your fingertips used to touch my skin.
I closed my eyes,
Expecting your embrace,
To feel the phantom memory of what had been.
I saw your eyes reflected back
In the glow of the lamplight on the glass.
The flames whispered your name
As I remembered all that was.
I hold you close,
Today, as in the past.
You may be gone from me
And yet you live
Safely in my heart of hearts.
You’ll always be a part of me,
Until the last star fades away from the firmament.

I read and watched the scenes unfold in my mind. The longing, so soft and true.
Beautiful poem.
Thank you so much, Shirley!
